Conrayn Merino Stud History
Conrayn Merino Stud sits in the heart of the NSW Snowy Mountains nestled between the villages of Berridale and Dalgety in the beautiful Monaro region. Owned and operated by principals Peter and Jayne Lette with their two young sons, Cade and Jamie, this superfine/fine wool stud has grown from small beginnings into one of the most successful studs in New South Wales.
Founded in 1991 with the purchase of one ram and 100 ewes from Grathlyn Stud with further rams being purchased from the Merryville, Brillant Example and Ringmaster families, Conrayn is always striving to improve the quality of their product. Venturing into the field of artificial insemination their AI breeding program has produced excellent quality rams sired by Alfoxton President and Alfoxton Diplomat, purchased by Conrayn in partnership in 2010 for $46,000. Progeny from these two sires resulted in the sale of the top priced ram at Bendigo in 2012 for $20,000 with one other ram selling for $10,000.
From proudly winning ribbons in local shows Conrayn has developed into a major competitor over the years winning trophies and awards for championships and best exhibitor at the Royal Sydney, Royal Canberra and Bendigo Shows, as well as many regional shows, for their outstanding rams, ewes and fleeces.
Conrayn continues to strive for quality and whilst the Monaro can be a place of harsh winters and hot summers its lambs continue to thrive due in nl small part to the management of Peter and Jayne Lette who believe that, as well as a good sire, the ewe base should never be underestimated. This philosophy will see Conrayn’s past and present successes endure well into the future.
Breeding Objectives
We are combining micron testing, fleece weighing with visual classing to produce large framed sheep with soft, bright, well nourished ultra fine, superfine and fine wools with good weights concetrating on staple length and wool quality. Our AI programmes are continuing from some of the industries leading Superfine sires.
Average Wool Yields
